My brother saunters in. After squeezing into the two by two booth and ordering a coke says, "I guess Im going to die today..." I look at him with this look of shut up you total dork ~ then ask "Ok Darien why would this be?" "Well ," he replies, "I was riding my motorcycle down the street and out of nowhere fly these two huge vultures almost making me wipe out. Dont you think thats a sign of bad luck ? I mean they are birds of prey and death, right? " I think for a moment and think the thought sometimes things arent what they would seem ... Everyone around the table is apparently thinking the same thing and saying just as much "no no no they probably mean just the opposite!" trying to reassure him I offer " what would it matter anyway its not like it really means anything ." To which he counters me " yeah you of all people the one who is always looking for signs ..." I smile knowing he's right then he closes with some line from "The Alchemist's Handbook" about paying attention to signs and we drop it Later that evening inspired to find the meaning of what a vulture represented .. I googled this bit of info Thanks for bringing this up. When I dug into what vultures represent, I was surprised to learn they are a symbol of a devoted mother. Many of us here have thought Irma Pince, the Hogwarts' librarian is really Eileen Prince in disguise (I'm a Prince = Irma Pince) who is Severus Snape's mother. I think the question of whether Neville's grandmother was messing with his memory went unresolved, but from this vulture symbolism, we might at least infer that if she is doing something it is for well-intentioned reasons.
